Teen injured in fall from cliffs at Gillette Castle State Park – Hartford Courant

A 17-year-old male fell from cliffs at Gillette Castle State Park Sunday, according to a spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The teen was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford with facial injuries and is in stable condition, DEEP spokesman Will Healey said in a statement released at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Healey said DEEP EnCon Police, East Haddam Fire Department, East Hampton Fire Department and Chester Fire Department responded to the East Haddam park after the fall occurred.

EnCon Police are investigating, Healey said.

The 103-year-old landmark castle at the state park only reopened this weekend after extensive renovations. The grounds, which have been open during the renovations, overlook the Connecticut River.
