Donovan is the general manager of Events Edmonton, which produces Taste of Edmonton, running July 21-31 at Churchill Square. Ticket sales for the festival kick off June 1.

It’s Sunday morning, what are you having for breakfast?

A bowl of cereal, black coffee and water.

If you did not do what you do for a living, what would you be?

Something similar, for the last three years working in the nonprofit industry has been beyond rewarding, I feel that I would remain in the same/similar line of work.

Who’s your hero?

I don’t necessarily have “heroes” but I am inspired by my wife Dez, my outstanding daughter Charlotte, my in-laws Cath and Desmond, and my best friends Shawn/Kel.

Last book you couldn’t put down?

Year Book by Seth Rogen.

Who was your childhood celebrity crush?

Oh boy, Whitney Houston or Tina Turner.

What’s playing on your iPod (CD, cassette or eight-track) right now?

Our 2022 Taste of Edmonton Performance line-up!! Some absolutely amazing talent.

What’s the best thing about Edmonton?

FESTIVALS, obviously I am biased, but it brings together the diverse people and communities of our city.

What’s your weirdest habit?

I have several according to my wife… I keep the pantry very organized, I water our 60+ house plants in the same order or walk the isles in the grocery
store the same every time, and sit in the same place to watch hockey games!

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Hearing people chew — ironic since I run a food festival (lol).

What’s your fast-food guilty pleasure?

Since taking over Taste of Edmonton I don’t indulge in fast-food any longer since I save it all for the 11 days of the festival.

What was your most embarrassing moment?

I don’t embarrass easily, but I do live vicariously through my wife’s mishaps.

Wayne Gretzky or Axl Rose.

What’s your favourite vacation destination?

Mexico, sun/sand/warm weather – nothing better!

What is your favourite TV show?

Watching an Oilers game count? Guy’s Grocery Games.

What’s your dream car?

Two, either a 1979 Convertible Volkswagen Beetle or 1960s Volkswagen Bus.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Nothing traditional like flying or supersonic hearing. I’d like the ability to be able to perpetually make other people’s lives better… feed and shelter the
homeless.

What’s the one thing you haven’t done that you’d love to do?

Go on a cruise.

An extra-large black coffee.

What are your words to live by?

Happy wife, happy life!
