“This is due to a significant and unexpected staffing shortage with contracted employees of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA),” reads a news release from YVR.

CATSA is the federal Crown corporation responsible for all passenger security screening at Canada’s airports.

The airport recommends all travellers to arrive at the airport at least three hours ahead of scheduled departure times for all flights from YVR today and until further notice.

“Today’s congestion demonstrates the importance of finding a long-term solution for Canada’s aviation ecosystem as we build back from the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” reads the release.
