Around 1:30 p.m. on April 25, Maskwacis RCMP were dispatched to an area at the townsite for a man who had been shot. RCMP said they learned the suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

Mounties said the victim was treated on scene and taken to a nearby hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Maskwacis General Investigation Section has taken over the investigation and are seeking the public’s help for more information related to the shooting. Mounties are asking residents, particularly in the Samson townsite on April 25 between 1 and 2 p.m., to report any suspicious people or activities seen during that time.

“We believe there are people out there who have information about this shooting,” said Cst. Andrew Deme with the Maskwacis RCMP in a Tuesday release.

“Our detachment members are working to strengthen that relationship and trust with our community residents, and making it a safe place to live. We can do this by working together, either by speaking with an officer, or calling the detachment, or reporting it anonymously to Crime Stoppers.”

The RCMP is also asking residents to check any video doorbell or surveillance cameras for anything related to the shooting.
