Police are investigating a New London house fire with one woman dead, a baby rescued and a man reportedly under arrest on Wednesday night.
According to multiple media reports, police are investigating the fire as a possible homicide and arson.
Responders were called to the home around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a structure fire. After they arrived on the scene, the fire department began to work to extinguish the fire, according to police.
Responders found a woman and child inside the home and a man in the back of the residence, police said.
The man and child were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel, police said.
Police said the man is in custody. They believe this is a domestic incident and arson investigation, according to multiple media reports.
New London police personnel responded to investigate the incident along with the Connecticut Major Crime Unit, the New London State’s Attorney Office, the New London Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Connecticut Fire Marshal’s Office.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing, police said.
