Man charged after alleged kidnapping of Ansonia woman, infant daughter – Hartford Courant

A 23-year-old man was charged after allegedly abducting his ex-girlfriend and their infant daughter in Ansonia on Saturday, according to police.

Joshua Lopez was taken into custody by the Shelton Police Department after photos of Lopez, his 6-month-old daughter Eliana Lopez and the baby’s mother, 22-year-old Galylea Perez, were distributed throughout the state following reports of an abduction, according to the Ansonia Police Department.

Ansonia police said they responded to High Street about 5:15 p.m. Saturday and were met by Perez’s sister, who told them that Lopez allegedly had forced her sister and the baby into a car. She said Lopez implied he had a gun but didn’t show any weapons, police said.

Police said Saturday that they believed Lopez was heading to New York in a four-door silver Honda Accord registered in Massachusetts. A no-contact order had been issued involving Lopez and Perez out of New York City, police said.

The Ansonia Police Department shared photos of Lopez, Perez and the baby with police departments across the state on Saturday evening. A few hours later, about 8:34 p.m., police announced that the mother and daughter had “been located and they are safe.”

The two had been picked up by a relative at the scene. There was no weapon found on Lopez or in his car at the time of his arrest, police said.

Lopez was charged with violation of a protective order and second-degree breach of peace. He was being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Monday.

Police said the investigation into the reported abduction is ongoing and shared resources for domestic violence support.

Ansonia police shared contact information for The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services which can be reached at 203-736-9944, 203-789-8104 or 1-888-774-2900 or online at Statewide domestic violence assistance can be found by visiting or by calling or texting 1-888-774-2900.
