Kaye Adams admits she lies about real age and is ‘panicking’ about turning 60

Loose Women’s Kaye Adams has admitted she has lied about her real age over the years.

The BBC Radio Scotland host admitted she is panicking as she has only nine months left until she turns 60.

In her new podcast How to Be 60, Kaye revealed she liked to keep her age close to her chest after being inspired by her mum.

Recalling a worrying but hilarious tale involving the police, the Scots TV host revealed: “What I quite like to do is disseminate false information. In different stories I fudge my age so there are loads of different ages out there. I have always been age-phobic or an age denier – call it what you like.

“My mum was stopped for speeding… and so a young policeman stops and said ‘what are your details and what’s your age?’

“And mum said ‘over 21’ and that’s what she said all the time. This escalated and we had to go to the local police station and my dad had to come and spring us from the police station because he quietly in a corner revealed her date of birth to the desk sergeant so that that was it.”

“So I guess that’s implanted in my brain somewhere and she never ever conceded her age.”

She added: “Actually saying the numbers out loud I find really difficult. On the phone, like in the bank or whatever and they ask you your age or insurance and they ask for date of birth I can say it. I don’t like it but I can say it.

“But that’s really the only situation that I can say it . And like if I’m on Loose Women or whatever and they know that I’m a bit bonkers about my age and they’ll try and prompt me to see my date of birth or whatever. And I really don’t like to have to admit that.”

How To Be 60 with Kaye Adams has launched in time for the Easter weekend with a new episode out every Friday.

Kaye said she came up with the idea because of her fears of heading into a new decade, and she thought it was “therapy or a weekly podcast”.

Kaye told fans on episode one: “Whatever it is, I’m honestly being genuine, I get a rising sense of panic when I think about being 60. And actually saying it out loud is deeply unpleasant.

“I mean, if I had one of those heart monitors on, it would be jumping about here.

“But anyway, I guess I’m going to confront this. I have got roughly nine months until I’m 60. I need to reconcile myself to it. I need perhaps even to embrace it.”

Adding that 40 used to be the big birthday milestone, Kaye said: “Once you get to 60 all the greeting cards are about flatulence, forgetfulness, where did I put my glasses?

“You know your t*** are down at your bloody waist. I mean, nobody is pretending anymore at 60.

“Do you know what? It’s not even middle age anymore? It’s called the Third Age. I had such horrors around being a middle aged woman and now I’m not even a middle aged woman. I don’t want to become one of those people and I go to the garden centre on a Monday and on a Tuesday, I’ve got the Lunch Club on a Wednesday, i I’ve got this. That just gives me the heebie jeebies.”

Kaye also hilariously revealed she keeps her Loose Women false eyelashes on for as long as she can to save money,

She added: “I’ve got them on five days later. When I do Loose Women and they do the makeup and they’re brilliant. And they give you these fabulous false eyelashes, which would probably cost about 150 quid if you went to a beauty salon. And so I think I’m gonna get maximum maximum out of it.”
