A male suffered critical injuries Friday night when he was beaten and stabbed by a group outside Nanaimo’s Wellington Beer & Wine Store and Well Pub on Victoria Avenue.

Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said police responded to the Victoria Avenue business about 6:20 p.m. after a report that four or five males were assaulting another male.

“When we got there the suspects had fled in two cars,” O’Brien said.

The victim had been hit with what appeared to have been bats or blunt objects, and also stabbed several times.

“He was transported to Nanaimo hospital and then transported to Victoria,” O’Brien said.

The victim’s condition hasn’t been released.

“We don’t know what, if any, relationship existed between the two parties.”

Investigators are hoping to hear from the public about the incident. Call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
