Liam Payne got everyone’s mind off the Chris Rock and Will Smith Oscars beef when he appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning.
Will Smith had slapped Oscars host Chris after a jibe was made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Will, 53, who later won the award for Best Actor, stormed the stage and physically attacked Chris, 57, after he appeared to mock Jada’s hair.
Speaking to GMB, former One Direction star Liam said: “Will Smith actually used to live behind my house. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing his son and daughter very well.
“I believe that he felt whatever he did, he had the right to do. I also felt there were three losers in one fight. He didn’t know, being Chris Rock, he didn’t do what he had to do, being Will Smith, and she did nothing, being Jada.”
Liam continued: “It’s a very sad thing, but there was a powerful moment for me to sit and watch one of the world’s best emoters ever we’ve seen speak from the heart and I would rather take the beauty out of the situation than take the pain.
“But I had to leave my chair, I’ll be honest with you, it cut me really deep, and I don’t get deep about these things but I’m a big movie fan.
“Out of a horrible moment, there was a little bit of beauty in what came on and I’m sure everyone is very apologetic about what happened, it shouldn’t have happened,” Liam added.
However, viewers tuning it at home were more interested in Liam’s accent as opposed to his comments about Will.
“I thought Liam Payne was English…his accent …#GMB,” one person posted.
Another asked: “why is Liam paynes accent some sort of American Irish ?! #gmb (sic).”
A third person tweeted: “#gmb most distressing thing about all of that is hearing Liam Payne talk about it.”
A fourth viewer commented: “You’re Wolverhampton accent is spot on Liam..the Black Country will be proud #gmb (sic).
And someone else asked: “What accent is Liam Payne speaking in?! #gmb.”
Another viewer stated: “Liam Paynes accent on GMB at the Oscars is horrific #gmb #oscars.”
The celebrity world is reeling after the shocking moment at the Oscars.
Will was left livid after Chris quipped: “Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2.”
Later on in the evening, Will won Best Actor and as he walked up to the stage he slapped the presenter, before returning to his seat and shouting: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
