Deadly double shooting under investigation in Hartford – Hartford Courant

One person is dead and a second wounded after a double shooting in Hartford on Friday, police said.

A caller reported the shooting in the area of 238 Sigourney St. about 11:40 a.m., Lt. Aaron Boisvert said. The gunfire did not set off a ShotSpotter alert.

Officers found a male victim unresponsive on the sidewalk, Boisvert said. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Boisvert, a second victim was found nearby. That person is expected to survive.

Boisvert said police believe the victim who died was the intended target, but the person who survived may have been “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” They think the shooter was on foot, as opposed to in a car.

There are privately owned and city cameras in the area, he said, and police were checking them for clues Friday afternoon.

The homicide happened near the intersection with Ashley Street, which is down the street from Saint Francis. Sigourney Square Park is across the intersection from the scene in the Asylum Hill neighborhood.

It is the 11th homicide of the year in the capital city, Boisvert said.

An 18-year-old was shot at the same address in October 2021. He survived.
