Celtics suspend head coach Ime Udoka for 2022-23 season for violating team policies


The Boston Celtics have suspended head coach Ime Udoka for the 2022-23 season for violations of team policies, the team announced Thursday.

The team says a decision about his future with the Celtics beyond this season will be made at a later date.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier that Udoka was facing the punishment for his role in a “consensual relationship with a female staff member.”

After the suspension was announced, Wojnarowski reported the Celtics have made assistant coach Joe Mazzulla the interim head coach.

ESPN’s Malika Andrews tweeted out a statement from Udoka after the decision apologizing or his actions
