2 dead after boat capsized near Stamford – Hartford Courant

Two men have died after being pulled from the water after a small boat capsized in the Long Island Sound near Stamford, officials said.

Rescuers pulled four men from the water on Sunday morning about one mile off of West Beach in Stamford where their boat, described only as “a small vessel,” had capsized in the Sound, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Stamford Police Department, Stamford Fire Department, Darien Police Department, Norwalk Police Department and the Noroton Fire Department all responded to the scene via boat to bring the men to shore.

Two of the men required CPR at the scene. They were all rushed to local hospitals, where two of them were pronounced dead, DEEP reported.

They were all wearing life jackets when they were rescued, DEEP said.

The men had not yet been identified, pending notification of their families. No further information was immediately available.
